Who We Are

Engineers, analysts, and logisticians — built rogue on purpose.

REAL, Inc. — Rogue Engineers, Analysts, and Logisticians, Incorporated — is a cleared consulting firm built to accelerate how the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community move technology from concept to capability. We bring engineering, operations research, graphic arts, and hardware design expertise to government program offices at War Department R&D, the USAF, the USN, OSD, and across the IC.

Our team has spent decades inside the system — standing up analysis divisions on the Air Staff, advising War Department R&D program managers, and building the transition frameworks that carry a technology from a War Department R&D lab into a fielded service capability. We know the acquisition process, the security channels, and the people, because we've spent careers building them.

"Rogue" isn't a pose. It's a working style: small, fast, cleared, and unafraid to go around a dead end to get a program funded, tested, and transitioned.

Rogue Founder, Rogue Engineer

James Muccio leads REAL, Inc. after a career spanning more than three decades across the Air Force, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and War Department R&D. He has served as Technical Director for Headquarters Air Force Studies & Analyses, Special Technical Advisor to the Chief Scientist at the Air Force Technical Applications Center, and Chief of Integrated Space & Cyber Analysis on the Air Staff — standing up three separate Air Force analysis divisions along the way.

Most recently, as Senior Systems Engineer supporting War Department R&D, he has directed technology transition efforts worth hundreds of millions of dollars, secured multi-year interagency funding agreements, and built the connective tissue between War Department R&D programs and the services, COCOMs, and the Intelligence Community.

He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M, an M.S. in Operations Research from George Mason University, and an M.A. in Liberal Arts from Texas Christian University, and is an INFORMS Certified Analytics Professional.

Company Philosophy: How to Be Rogue

Open to anyone — no login required. These are working documents on how we communicate and run meetings at REAL, Inc.

01

A Message to Garcia

The classic essay on initiative and follow-through — take the mission, find a way, and get it done without waiting to be told how. Required reading for how we operate.

Electronic Warfare

01

Tricking a Radar Into Seeing Nothing There

A working walkthrough of the radar range equation, IQ data, and DRFM digital deception — the building blocks behind modern electronic warfare and spectrum contests.

02

Burn-Through — Two-Sided Engagement

How burn-through range plays out from both sides of an engagement — jammer versus radar, and the point where signal wins out over noise.

Cyber Operations

01

Logic Gates — Eight Circuits Made Of Switches

Every gate shown twice — once as the symbol engineers draw, once as the switch circuit that actually does the work. Flip the inputs and watch the current find its way to the lamp, or fail to.

02

Relays and Latches — How a Circuit Remembers

A relay is a switch nobody touches: a coil, a magnet, and a lever. Let one relay's contacts feed its own coil and the circuit stops merely reacting and starts remembering.

03

Binary Adders — How an Adder Actually Adds

A computer has no idea what a number is — only wires that are on or off. Built here from scratch: two gates, then a full adder, then eight of them chained together.

Spectrum Awareness

01

FFT Trainer — Time Domain to Frequency Domain

An interactive walkthrough of the Fast Fourier Transform — watching a signal move from the time domain into the frequency domain and back.

02

I/Q Oscilloscope Trainer — Timebase, Vertical Scale and Trigger

Hands-on with I/Q data on a virtual scope — building intuition for how in-phase and quadrature components describe a signal.

03

Call of the Wild — Radio Across Eleven Decades

A field guide to the radio spectrum — recognizing what's actually out there on the air and building an ear for it.

Space

01

Orbital Mechanics for Fighter Pilots — LEO / MEO / GEO

LEO, MEO, and GEO explained in plain terms — orbital altitude, period, and why satellites in each regime behave so differently.

Token by Token, Issue 01 — a hands-on walk from a 16×16 pixel-art stick figure to real word vectors: patch tokenization, discrete tokens, decoding, and why king − man + woman lands near queen.
